Many of us are living through very surreal times. The majority of the country has moved to remote working as we transition our offices into our homes. This means more phone calls and video calls with colleagues and clients, but most importantly, it also means we get to spend more time with our dogs.
Being at home with our favourite four-legged friends brings lots of brilliant benefits, but for many people, it can also bring some challenges. Keeping your dog entertained and quiet while you’re on an important call can be tricky, and checking off the to-do list when you’re dog wants to play can be even harder. That’s why we’re sharing our top tips for staying productive while working from home with your dog.
Ensure you schedule playtime
We know the temptation to sit and play with your doggo all day long - let’s be honest, this is much more fun than sitting doing work. Dogs are very distracting as they’re cute and fun to play with, which is why you need to have designated playtimes. These act as a break from work, and a treat for both you and your dog.
Keep them entertained
Keeping your doggo occupied throughout the day can be a challenge, especially if they’re young or have lots of energy. The last thing you want when you’re on an important phone call is your dog barking, or chewing your belongings. To make sure this doesn’t happen, keep your dog entertained with their favourite toys and chews to help them stay calm.
Take them for walks
With the current guidelines from the Government, people are allowed to leave the house for one form of exercise a day, so use this time wisely. A great way to help break up the day for your dog is by taking them for a walk at lunchtime - this will help them burn off some of the excess energy and it’s also a great way for you to stay productive too.
Ensure they’ve got a separate area
Having your dog sat beside you all day when you work is dreamy, but in reality, it isn’t productive. It’s all too tempting to play with them when you should be knuckling down. So, before you start work for the day make sure they have their own area, ideally in a different room, and that they’ve got enough food, water and toys to play with.
