The recipe pairs ostrich with gluten-free potato, so it removes the two most common triggers - familiar meats and grain - in one food. Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids support healthy skin and a shiny coat, and the kibble is shaped for medium and large-breed teeth.

Common questions
Is Africa suitable for a dog with a chicken allergy?
Yes. The hydrolysed liver in Africa comes from poultry, but it has been hydrolysed to below 10,000 dalton - the protein structure is broken into fragments so small the immune system no longer recognises them as poultry. This makes it safe for dogs with chicken allergies, and many of our customers feed Africa for exactly that reason. Allergies are caused by proteins; fats are chemically identical regardless of source, so poultry-derived fat is not a trigger either.
What is the fat content - is it okay for pancreatitis?
Africa is 10% fat - just on the top end of the range usually cited for pancreatitis, so whether it is suitable depends on the severity of your dog's case. For a dedicated low-fat option, our Vet Intestinal Low Fat diet is 6.9% crude fat and is developed with pancreatitis in mind. We would always advise confirming the fat threshold with your vet before choosing.
Can I use this for an elimination diet?
Yes - a single novel protein with a short ingredient list is exactly what an elimination diet needs. Feed it exclusively for several weeks: no treats, chews or table scraps during that period, as they make it impossible to tell what is causing any reaction. If symptoms settle, you have strong evidence a previous ingredient was the trigger. Your vet can help structure the reintroduction phase.
My dog is settled on this food but itching more in summer - should I change it?
Probably not. If your dog has been doing well on the food overall - good digestion, settled skin most of the year - summer flare-ups usually point to environmental triggers: pollen, grass, dust mites, seasonal irritation. Changing protein will not fix an environmental allergy, and switching a food that suits your dog risks unsettling what is working. Keep the diet consistent and speak to your vet about managing the seasonal component.
My dog is a fussy eater - any tricks with this food?
The best trick for dry food: warm it slightly - 10-15 seconds in the microwave. This releases the fats and makes the kibble smell far more appetising, which is usually what wins a fussy dog over. A spoonful of one of our Pure wet foods stirred through as a topper also works well. And if a fussy dog is refusing everything, rule out a health cause with your vet first - a sudden loss of appetite is different from fussiness.
